a quiet homage to the power of form, tradition, and transformation.
THE INSPIRATION
Across cultures, totems — like jewelry — serve as vessels of meaning. They carry stories, mark transitions, and embody continuity. Andrea Claire has long viewed lighting as jewelry for space, and in Totemic, these ideas come together in sculptural form.
THE PROCESS
Reflecting over a decade of exploration, Totemic marks an evolution of the studio’s craft, technique, and collaborative spirit. Each design begins with hand sketches, developed into 3D renderings and full-scale models. Components are refined in CAD, then laser cut, 3D printed, or machined.
Every piece is hand-assembled and finished with Korean mulberry bark paper — chosen for its beauty and natural texture.
THE COLLECTION
Totemic is modular by nature — open to customization and transformation. The paper shades come in two sizes and three forms: Moon, Sage, and August. Each is named to evoke layered meaning and gentle familiarity. Shades are invisibly connected by a vertical spine, accented with diamond-shaped brass ornaments that catch and refract light like jewelry.
THE EFFECT
The result is lighting that feels both grounded and ethereal — a balance of structure and softness, material and memory. Totemic is an invitation to experience light as a living, expressive force — shaping the spaces it inhabits and resonating far beyond them.
TOTEMIC is previewing with a special installation at Emerson Bailey’s curatorial showhouse during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen. We’ll be showing the Totemic Pendant 2(2) in a special 23k gold gilded finish.
